Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren have officially completed their divorce. Once Elin found out about Tiger’s cheating, she left and never came back. As for Tiger, he’s now single once again. That said, I’m going to take a wild guess and say that Tiger is going to lay low for a couple months. Actually, make that a couple years.
Tiger and Elin released a short statement through their lawyers: “We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future.”
According to various reports, Elin got about 0 million in the divorce. For her, marrying Tiger turned out to be a rather good investment.
Since the sex scandal, Tiger’s golf game has really suffered. He hasn’t won anything and he looks like a shadow of his former self. It’ll be interesting to see if Tiger’s game improves or continues to decline now that he’s single.
Next time, Tiger, think about a pre-nup. Also, be more careful about sand traps.

Mark Ingram does a good imitation of Tiger Woods. No, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner isn’t getting a divorce. In the video below, you can see Mark Ingram doing golf tricks a la Tiger Woods in his famous commercial.
Ingram begins the video by bouncing a golf ball on his club. He then balances the golf ball on his club before going between the legs on a bounce. His next trick is to attempt to bounce the golf ball and then drive it. The video ends with Mark Ingram sending a standard drive down the golf course.
We know the Alabama running back is a gifted football player. We didn’t know he also had talent on the golf course. That said, Ingram’s future is in the NFL, not the PGA Tour.
Can Mark Ingram win a second straight Heisman Trophy? Can he lead his Alabama squad to a second straight national championship? We don’t have those answers yet but we saw what he can do with a golf club in his hand in this video:

When you think about Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, you envision a classic duel on the hardwood between two of the best bigmen in the history of the NBA. What you don’t think about? Golf. But in the latest episode of “Shaq vs.”, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley decided to compete on the golf course.
Barkley recently trained with Hank Haney, the former swing coach of Tiger Woods, on “The Hank Haney Project” — a show on the Golf Channel — so he’s obviously not new to the game. In fact, now that he’s retired from the NBA, you can either find the Chuckster gambling or playing golf.
Shaq, being the ever-confident athlete he is, made fun of Barkley’s swing and challenged him to a round of golf. In the “Shaq VS.” episode, the two giants settled their differences with golf clubs in hand.
At the end of the episode, Shaq had to make a put to beat Charles Barkley — and he did!

Some basketball experts thought that Yao Ming would never play in the NBA again after suffering yet another foot injury. Those worries seem to be off-base after the Houston Rockets have cleared their Chinese center to resume basketball-related activities. The Rockets now believe that Yao will be able to start the regular season on the active roster.
Said Yao: “I am very excited. I am just looking forward to playing a great season. I think I can count on my foot now.”
In the 2008-09 season, Yao was able to play in 77 regular season games and average 19.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. However, the 7-foot-5 center hurt his foot in the playoffs and missed the entire 2009-10 campaign. The surgery to fix his foot was complicated and there was no guarantee that he’d ever fully recover.
“I’m probably a little bit away from game shape,” admitted Yao. “The good news is we still have one month until training camp, and two months to the season.”

It took 16 innings for the Houston Astros to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies. But the biggest storyline of the game wasn’t the score, rather it was the fact that Roy Oswalt played left field for part of the contest. You can see the video of Oswalt playing in the outfield below.
The Phillies needed Oswalt to play left field after Ryan Howard was ejected by the third base umpire. Raul Ibanez then had to move from left field to first base. With no more position players on the bench, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel had to do something … and he decided to put Oswalt into the game as an outfielder. Oswalt is a very good athlete (for a pitcher, at least) so the move made sense.
It didn’t take long for Oswalt to be tested in the field. After the ball was hit to him and he made a routine catch, Oswalt got a round of applause from the home crowd.
But after the Astros scored two in the top of the 16th, the crowd left upset as the Phillies are now 2.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East.

The casual NBA fan has no idea who Eric Gordon is — mostly due to the fact that he plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. However, that may be changing. Eric Gordon is making a name for himself on Team USA. On Wednesday, Gordon led past Greece by pouring in 18 points in only 21 minutes, while shooting 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point land.
Thanks to Gordon’s strong play, Team USA beat Greece by a final score of 87-59. Kevin Durant had 15 points and seven rebounds. Derrick Rose (13) and Kevin Love (10) were the other Americans in double figures.
Kostas Tsartsaris led the way for Greece with 24 points. Unfortunately for Tsartsaris, he didn’t get any help. No other player on Greece scored more than eight points and while Tsartsaris was 9-for-12 from the field, the rest of the team was 11-for-37.
No the games will begin to count for Team USA. Though this American squad is small and inexperienced, they have made great strides in recent weeks and look to be a powerful favorite heading into the basketball World Championship.

Every game is important for the Atlanta Braves right now. As it stands, the Braves hold a 2.5-game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. That’s why Wednesday’s loss stings so much. After holding a nine-run lead over the Colorado Rockies, the Braves fell asleep. The Rockies stormed back to win by a final count of 12-10.
How did it happen?
Following a two-run homer by Omar Infante in the third inning, the Braves were up 10-1. But then the Rockies got rolling. Ian Stewart started it off with a sac fly in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Dexter Fowler hit a triple with two players on base — and then scored on an error. With the score 10-5, Sean Smith made it 10-6 with an RBI double in the sixth. Later in the same inning, Ryan Spilborghs hit a two-run double to make it 10-8.
To tie the game, Carlos Gonzalez hit a single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning. Troy Tulowitzki gave the Rockies the lead with a single and then Todd Helton added an insurance run with another single in the eighth.
… and that’s all she wrote for the Braves and their nine-run lead.

NFL owners want to make more money — just like the rest of us. But they are making a mistake by pushing for a schedule that includes 18 regular season games. Yes, we all hate preseason NFL games but the solution isn’t adding even more bruising to the already hellish physical toll the players put on the body each and every season.
The latest news has NFL owners pushing for the 18-game schedule as of the 2012 season. Here are five reasons why this is a mistake:
1. Too Many Injuries Each NFL season is impacted by injuries. Adding two more games to a season will create a significant increase in injuries — especially late in the season with players who aren’t used to playing so much football.
2. Statistics Ruined Season records will never be the same. Career records will need asterisks. Basically, it’ll be a mess.
3. Watered Down Talent If more games are added to the schedule, the active rosters will be expanded. Expanded rosters will cause the talent in the league to be watered down.
4. Americans Don’t Want More Right now isn’t the time to add more to our plate. Paying for more regular season games isn’t possible with the downturn in the economy. Plus, our attention span can only take so much.
5. Too Much Tanking If you think tanking is bad now, wait until an 18-game schedule is put into affect. Teams could conceivably lock up a playoff spot and go on vacation for a month at the end of the season.

The St. Louis Rams can’t catch a break. They’ve struggled in every aspect of the game in the last few years. In fact, last year they were so bad that they ended up with the number one pick in the draft. This year, too, is starting off on the wrong foot. According to sources close to the Rams, wide receiver Donnie Avery will miss the entire season after suffering a torn ACL in a preseason game on Thursday against the New England Patriots.
In the second quarter, Donnie Avery jumped for a pass and grabbed at his knee after landing. He had to be carted off the field and was obviously in pain. Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo wasn’t optimistic when talking to the press after the exhibition game.
Said Spagnuolo: “Donnie probably has a significant knee injury. We will know a little bit more when we get the tests.”
Entering his third season, Donnie Avery had 100 catches for 1,263 yards and eight touchdowns in his first two years in the NFL. He was expected to be one of St. Louis’ main weapons on the offensive side of the football field this season … but that won’t happen after the torn ACL.

Tiger Woods wasn’t a very good golfer after his sex scandal up until his divorce was finalized. However, in his first round of golf since his divorce, Tiger Woods looked like the Tiger Woods we all had grown accustomed to watching. At the Barclays, Tiger Woods shot a first round 6-under 65 to sit on the top of the leaderboard.
Said Tiger: “It’s exciting to hit the ball flush again; it’s something I’ve been missing all year.”
A happy wife at home has also been missing all year. In his case, no wife appears to be better than an unhappy wife. Although, Tiger wouldn’t directly come out and say it.
“I can’t really say that’s the case. As far as golf, it was nice to put it together,” remarked Tiger.
It’ll be interesting to see if he can hold on for the win and get his golf game back in order. And hey, if he wins this tournament, he doesn’t have to worry about losing half of the paycheck.
